Using a PowerPoint Based e-Learning tool to gamify your content

hello everyone and welcome to the iSpring solutions webinar thank you very much for joining us today as we're going to speak about using your powerpoint based tool to gamify your content my name is Polina I am a community manager and I will be the moderator for today's webinar and as a speaker we have invited more excitement hi mark how I do when I Pollyanna hi everybody doing great wonderful very excited for the today's webinar so at the end awesome so at the end we are going to have Q&A session as usual so guys you are more than welcome to send your questions comments or concerns in the question box which should be on the right side of your GoToWebinar panel and at this point I think we are ready to begin so mark I'm passing the mic over to you Thank You Polina okay hopefully everybody can hear me all right how's it sound so far I see a note from Alfredo I'm going to be by the way not looking directly into the webcam of monitor at times because I have two monitors going and so my chat messages are over here on the right so I see mark and Carl came in here and that's as long as Loretta and Mike and Carl can hear I think we're good okay so um thank you so much for everyone for joining in I'm going to make this quick and well maybe not that quick I'm going to run through hopefully a few things relatively quickly to kind of show you some of the different tricks that I've used for gamification inside PowerPoint I know that's kind of an oxymoron where people don't do PowerPoint and gamification as much or gamification purists may say that you're not supposed to be able to do it in PowerPoint but I'll show you at least some of the approaches that you may want to take advantage of to do gamification can you get my slideshow going okay first we're going to take a step back and talk about some of the games that have been around for a while inside of PowerPoint and you know this doesn't require any kind of real magical sort of touches or anything like that it's probably something that all of you know as long as you've done a couple of hyperlinks inside of PowerPoint so the Jeopardy game and everybody's known about Jeopardy for a while and so let's try to reveal some of the mystery behind Jeopardy okay so I happen to have a nice spring training edition I showed this one it was at the devil irnos learning solutions conference for the e-learning guild in the spring it was down in Florida which is spring training time so for our international audience I apologize and I should have used European football premier league would have been great but for now pretend you're American and you're going to do a little baseball sort of jeopardy so again what you're what you see here is basically the Jeopardy board and really under the covers it's just hyper linking and I'm going to show you how the trickery happens it's really very simple so we can choose any kind of category here from the chat message anybody want to see a particular category okay so I'm thinking ballpark food for 200 Oh Blue Jays in Toronto sorry sorry Mike uh somebody wants to Yankees two all right let's start off with ballpark food we all can relate to food okay now the two snacks to buy when you sing take me out to the ballgame and you can chat your guesses here of on the chat board I'm looking over there right now so which two snacks do you buy for that song called take me out to the ball game take me out to the crowd very good cracker Jennifer perfect okay so you notice I have a really fancy little timer here that you know for the five seconds you're allotted I'll show you the magic behind that which is again is not real magical but when you click on the answer key down on the bottom what are peanuts and cracker jack okay and then you've got a little home button here guess what it's going back over once again okay I'm in the Boston area by the way so even though I'm in the Boston area would much prefer going to the read size column I did see a request from Patricia to do Yankees so Patricia do you happen to know the New York Yankees all-time home run leader times up I'll click on the answer who is Babe Ruth you may have heard of them very good Alfredo got that one okay and I'm not going to bore you to death with all the rest of these sort of links but what I do want to do is go back over here and show you some of the again behind the scenes what this really does I clicked on the wrong button there go away let me to page down even better okay now let's talk about the magic and the magic again is not that complicated all's we have we have first of all your home page with all those little categories and boxes for two hundred four hundred or one hundred two hundred so on so forth okay so what happens when you click on one of these categories is it goes over to the question page and this of course is a little bit of a trick thing because in jeopardy we don't really have questions we have the answers first and then somebody asks in the form of a question but nonetheless let's go with this so you have the question you have the answer so now you're on a different slide this could be slide two let's say okay then you're going to click on the answer button guess what it goes to slide three all right and then from slide three guess what this is simply a hyperlink to go back home once again and this whole routine is basically the same way so this first box Michael the second box Mike over to slide four the third box might go over to slide six and so and so forth nothing real magical you've got basically a bunch of question pages bunch of answer pages very very simple now what's the trick for us who are I spring users and ice ring lovers well the trick is of course when you go into doing stuff online okay because right now what this requires is to have a teacher or facilitator of basically manning this and basically asking the questions so let's go a little bit beyond this and let's talk about animation triggers now here we get into areas where you can actually put together something that is more of a gamification that you could do within your lesson okay your online lesson I should say so what I've got here is I've got little balloons this is a very sort of simple thing for those that haven't done animation triggers before all you have to do is basically create up an animation trigger I'm going to show you how to do that in just a second and what happens is the object that you set the animation trigger on is basically going when you click on something it's going to do something so when I click on this balloon you may or may not have heard that pop I heard it very loudly I reveal text in this case okay and this can be anything that you want alright and again it's just an animation trigger now I think what may benefit us at this point is actually to go in and let's see the magic behind this okay and so the animation triggers really are very very simple so what I'm going to do is basically draw a couple of buttons out to the side you can you can basically click on anything that you want so because this is a button potentially I think I'm going to maybe format this uh nothing too fancy but let's make it 3d okay by the way I'm not a graphic artist but we're going to call this one button number one okay and now through the magic of the control D capability going to make three different buttons right I'll call them let's see button two and button three okay these are going to be the things that we want to learner to click on so by the way I hate the way that this is aligned and so and so forth if you haven't discovered as kind of a side note the quick access toolbar up here it's a wonderful thing what I can do first of all is I can put the alignment tool up here I don't have to go over here to the format ribbon it's right here whenever I want it so I'm going to line these let's say left and then I'm going to come back in here again I'm going to distribute them horizontally so now I've got them aligned I'm a little older so the older you get the more OCD sort of stuff starts that's setting in so I like alignment so now I want the user basically to click on a button to reveal some information okay so the next step and I have my insert shape tool over here is basically to put in some text okay so what I'm going to do let's find a find an okay shape and this one this one might be nice okay and what this is is going to be information that I want to have revealed right so in this case maybe I don't want necessarily the shape to be filled with anything maybe white I'll do I won't bother with a whole lot of background and this is content and if you're not seeing that it's because I've got that as white text and I'm going to change that over right now oh let's make it blue just to get a little color in it okay so now that's content and again I can control D just to get this to set up again I won't bother going through the alignment tool I know my sort of OCD issues should not be your sort of OCD issues so let's just leave that alone okay now let's do some magic well first of all the animation part of it so first of all I have to basically animate these and I'm going to animate these to come in I can animate them to do anything that I want I can animate them to disappear I can animate them to spin and so and so forth but what I'll do so if the animation page pane just so you see as I go through this is I'm just going to set them in set them up excuse me with a simple sort of thing grow and turn house that we love growing turn whatever animation that you want you can put in here now you can see over here on the right hand side I basically have these things coming in and it's a little hard to see because of the mode that I'm in but over here on the side I've got these basically all set up as you know coming in and I can make them it all on click okay and everybody knows in PowerPoint so that'll mean basically when I come in they won't show up right away but as soon as I click my mouse or click the screen they'll come in one at a time well I don't want them to come in that way I want them to come in when I click these buttons okay so this is where the magic happens so what I want to do now is I want this piece of content to come in when I click button number one so I have my trigger animation on my toolbar for of animation on my I guess I should call it the ribbon um and basically I can I can set this thing to kick off its animation when I click any sort of object on this screen so what's wrong with this picture now is I'm looking to try to select something oh boy I've got all these just weird names here and I don't know what but number one is so how do I tell what button number one is boy that's a dilemma right oh wait I remember oldest trick in the book and by the way these sort of this sort of functionality goes all the way back I believe to PowerPoint 2007 at least so if you have an older version of PowerPoint don't worry about it so what I'm going to do here now is go into my selection pane also I don't use this often but for this sort of exercise I do like to have it so in this case I'll be able to tell what button number one is this right over here and better than that I can now call it v1 or button one or whatever else that I want to name it and I can now do the same thing for button two in button 3 this is actually a very very handy thing I'm going to take a wild guess that this one is button 3 and even if it's not I don't care it would be fine all right so I know my screen is getting a little funky there but so I've got my animation pane up I'm going to get rid of the selection pane um and again what I want to do is I want some this thing this animation to happen when I click one of these buttons so again if you remember from before I'm going to go back to my animation ribbon there's my trigger very very simple right on the click ok there's button 1 oh so I'm going to make it click on button 1 that's great so now let me come down to the second one I'll add another animation when it clicks on button number 2 say so I'll click on that notice over here on the pane it's changing a little bit so now I've got one trigger two triggers and just a second if I'm little lucky I'll have three triggers there's button number three okay everybody with me so far let's see I see a couple of questions here so just to let you know I'll have this powerpoint deck somewhere in the iSpring website and I don't know Kaleem are you going to do that magic at some point yeah sure we will be sending the recording of this webinar and also your presentation to all the it's a theme of this webinar okay excellent so if we missed the first part well first of all shame on you for being late no I'm kidding but you will be able to either get a to this deck plus the the replay of the webinar so you should be all set okay so I've got my three animation triggers running who actually thinks this is going to work I'm going to show mode just to see if this actually works so now I need to get into this mode notice I've got my buttons over here to the side oh look at when I put my cursor over there it does switch over like it's a hyperlink and I'm going to click on button one oh look at that that worked really nicely button two really nice button three and again fairly simple so keep in mind this is not a game yet right but it's an interaction and you're basically making the learner pick up the mouse and do something to reveal content or to show content or whatever else that you want them to see okay you can do a lot of different things I'll show you some examples of a couple other things that I've done in just a second and just to let you know what you can do with this in addition let's say that for for these I want now to build this and I wanted to do a couple of different things I don't want it just to do this well first of all you can select as many animated objects as you want here on the screen and then select the trigger or add another animation right so let's say when I show content number two I want content number one to disappear so I'm going to come over here to add an animation and down here on the bottom I'll just do a simple fade-out it can do whether whichever one that I want okay notice that animation now comes over here and then let's say when I do but number three again I want to do that same thing so I'm going to come in here add an animation doing a fade out of of that one okay and now the trick is I want these things I don't want them to be click animations right so what I'm going to do is I'm going to change them to work with previous okay and now all I have to do is just take these guys and drag and drop them into the different trigger so now this trigger is doing two animations or two things this one's doing two things you can do five things you can do however many things that you want when the learner is going to click this button now let's try this again okay so now when I click button number one normal but number two guess what we did two things we showed up this content we took out that content and there you go so those are animation triggers right now um let me switch back over and I'll show you some of the other ones that I've done just to give you an example about maybe some of the games that you can create using animation triggers so I'm going to swap modes again and I'm going to look over here on the chat session for questions um almost well some point let us know what your pretty type tools does iSpring provide oh so Carlos asked a question about Jeopardy type tools this Jeopardy game is out on the U on the iSpring website but if you just look up PowerPoint games just with a simple Google search you'll find tons of games that you can borrow some of them do have copyrights on them so you should get inspiration from them as opposed to use them or steal them or whatever wink wink hopefully if you understand kind of what I'm getting it there okay um so here's a couple of other just click trigger click animations that I've had so this is kind of a game you know guess what the city what city has the warmest average temperature during the month of July all right and so what I have happening here when I click on Orlando again click on any object to make some things happen I have this red bar that basically comes up with a wipe animation and then I have this information show up underneath and now that you know the magic of it you're not going to be that impressed with this but if you didn't know the magic you would go wow that's really cool or maybe you wouldn't actually um ok so there's a least a couple of things that can be done now here's another game everybody loves games so spin off on that one which temp which city has the warmest average temperature again you're just trying to basically get to learner to think ok this instead of maybe doing a knowledge check and knowledge checks could be fine you know have them do some sort of game so Barcelona Bing okay and I have again this cheap little sloppy wipe animation going up mic happening there yes I'm sorry for interrupting you but it seems like the gotowebinar pain is a little bit in the way oh it is ok sorry can you move it please yeah is that better not really yes better I don't know it for some reason it it doesn't allow me to sweep it over to my other monitor as well I'm not sure why plus it shows up as a little black object I guess mm-hmm I mean right now I can see the picture or your screen with a PowerPoint presentation sorry for interpreting you again no no no worries I'm trying to keep an eye by the way on the chat messages polina so if you see a question over there um looks like Michael said that's much better yeah good um please let me know I'm glancing out of the side of my eye sure okay so hopefully everybody can get the basic idea about doing some of the animation triggers um let's actually I think I think I spring gave this one to me a while ago little spin animation where again you click on a certain object and you reveal something again having the learner kind of guests information in this case or information I'm sorry it can be a flash card for example right oh yeah absolutely yes okay all right we've done with animation triggers well I've got a couple of the really cool things to show so I want to make sure I get to those if you have follow-up questions on the animation triggers my email address will be here as well how did that happen Oh part three mm-hmm and did you get it did you get a question from Karl about will animations with triggers looks moving in html5 yeah so if you use iSpring they will know there is a difference I will say this in the e-learning tools as you're developing animation triggers the the smoothness of it and the way it looks you know on different objects or sorry different devices like the phones and the tablets it does differ from tool to tool and I should also add articulate presenter does not do a trigger animations whatsoever a Adobe presenter does uh but there's a there's a difference and I have to say one of the reasons that I love using iSpring is really what you do in PowerPoint is really what you're going to see when you publish so that's why a little narrative on that mm-hmm and let's let's cover another one really quickly from Jennifer and new tonight spring and not a very good powerpoint user what part of I spring are using to make these Oh so inside PowerPoint again it's it comes down to just you know using animations so the iSpring part of it doesn't even come into play yet but again you you'll be assured that once whatever you do inside PowerPoint it is going to show up in your final elearning lesson and if you haven't seen the iSpring sweet and you're due to it start with the publish button i when i teach people how to use i spring i tell them okay just take your powerpoint whatever number of slides you have ten slides twenty slides 50 slides or whatever number you have and click on publish and see what you've got okay it gives you a head start it's the magic publish button will do all the work for you it converts over the PowerPoint into e-learning that by itself makes it very very simple mm-hmm and the following question from Jennifer after you make the PowerPoint then you put it in the quiz correct yes well no you're not going to put PowerPoint into a quiz okay the quiz you put into PowerPoint usually so the way that it's going to go is if I'm in iSpring if I start on a fresh slide and then click on the quiz button I'm going to basically start from scratch oh you want to create a new quiz if I've already created it and then I click on the quiz button you're going to see a little bit of a different behavior i screen is going to say oh i can see that you've got a quiz there here's the quiz that you've already created so in this case that's a good segue into the quiz tool Oh my quiz maker I think these monitors are driving it crazy right there with me one second let me do that I may start this one from scratch if this one doesn't quite behave let's try this one more time okay so here's what I have what I wanted to show you first of all the basics of the quiz maker tool are phenomenal and it does a lot of different things just for doing a standard vanilla okay I need to put in ten questions I need to put in five questions very very powerful the number of question types is great a bunch of true/false questions multiple choice fill in the blank sequence questions matching questions so you've got basically every question type that you can but let's talk about gamification okay there's a feature inside of I spring and the quiz maker tool that really allows you to go in a couple of different directions here okay so I have basically three questions I happen to put them in question groups but you don't have to and then what I'm going to do from here based on what the learner has has answered is I'm going to basically branch them off and I'm going to say oh sorry you missed this question you have to go to this other question group for dummies or whatever you know you can basically branch them off into a number of different directions based on their answer being true or false or correct or incorrect I should say so you'll notice up here I've got a standard question what sport is played in this type of stadium I've got the image over here and I can walk you through that the big magic is here at the bottom in the feedback and branching area okay so what I can do here for the feedback because I can go question by question for the feedback but I can also branch based on those questions so over here I can basically do it by question or by answer and then what I'm doing here is I'm selecting anything any area from here easy or another group of questions or some responses or whatever else that I want so what I'm doing over here is I'm basically saying okay if this user and by the way I've got the ability to use variable names here answers correctly I want to take them over to a question group number two so what will happen here is I'm in question group number two and then from here I'm going to go to question number two okay because up basically they're going on the same path but if they struck out you know potentially I want to take them to a different or they last strike one so that gives them first of all an incorrect display of an incorrect answer like sorry you missed that one you may want to check up on this and here you can do remediation or whatever else that you want to do but you can keep on branching from here to go okay from the incorrect answer I have another group of questions so let's start off with three questions if you get all three correct we're going to take you to the top of the mountain if you miss one of those questions we're going to take you to another set of questions in which case you don't get to the top of the mountain so let's show you the path that this kind of follows I realize I just have about only more minutes I've got about five or ten more minutes left I believe is that right polina um I think you're only 15 I mean how much time do you need all right I can keep on going all day if you would so okay I won't rush through this and I'll but I want to make sure that I allow it enough time at the end for question answers and things like that I know I'm kind of rambling here yeah well we have we have a coming from Michael don't stop him that's great okay okay sounds great um okay so here's what the pathway could be hold on let me swap over the display mode okay so here's your remediation flowchart and you can do this in any way that you want again with that branching capability you can go from question number one you get it correct you go to question number two you get it incorrect you're going to go over to remediation you know into that other level or you know again maybe you can to give them another shot before you put them into remediation so you know it depends on again what kind of assessment that you're working with but you know this branching really allows you to do a lot of different things so they go from question number one to question number two in the remediation area if they get those correct perhaps then you go back into the main pass like okay I see that you're doing better let's go back into the main path now if you get remediation question number one incorrect maybe then you're going to fail them okay now taking a gamification sort of approach to this because again we're kind of got this gamification sort of theme question 1 question 2 correct incorrect again you're going to basically have a loser bracket over here on the right potentially similar sort of things and it's up to you to decide when you know you may want to actually go through for the first 5 questions and then decide ok I'm going to take the person at this point and move them over to these losers sort of questions or whatever or the lower level let's just call it uh but if they get all these questions correct the question number 3 potentially what you're going to do okay we pick the loser bracket first okay you get it them correct and all of a sudden you're on the top of star Mountain okay and this might just be a little level or whatever that you're going to go through it we know that our lessons are becoming smaller and smaller used to be okay the e-learning lesson should be an hour sometimes two hours you know now there's there's lessons that are ten minutes so you know if you go through a 10-minute lesson and then it's like okay now at the end of the ten minutes let's just do this quick three question quiz again it goes as many as you want but this could be something that you repeat every week to say okay we're going to see who's going to get the star mountain this week and based on the feedback okay keeping in mind that this thing can run an LMS it can track everything that are you that a learner is doing within the quiz you're going to be able to track all of this weekly performance of these people and how often they got to start mounting something like that okay so it doesn't take much just to stretch the quiz maker tool into a game and be a trackable game which is actually I think both of those things are important okay so that's the quiz tool let's see I probably should have a poll survey to see how many people here have discovered talk master talk master is another thing that's just a wonderful tool from iSpring so here's what I'm going to do next if you haven't seen this you should definitely check this out talk master is basically a discussion simulator if you will or roleplay sort of tool that you can use for management you can use it for sales you can use it for customer service you know anything involves two people that are talking to each other or multiple people that are talking to each other this simulation tool is just great I'm a little biased I suppose but anyway I do like it a lot sorry I went to the wrong ribbon and I used it fairly often now the nice thing about this is it'd be very easy to set this up as a little game like hey you got that correct you you chose the right way to say something to your client your customer your colleague your employees or whatever you know you're going to basically do with the simulation so what I'm going to do again just like the quiz tool when I'm on a slide that has the simulation it's going to take me into the simulation tool and I'll be able to basically go through this edit of this thing so um so what I've got now shrunk that up just a little bit bit is I've got these interactions and the interface is actually kind of fun so you basically we're going to start out putting in a new scene when you go into a new scene you're able to pick out characters and background the character set is actually very generous you can put in your own characters and once you do select a character any kind of expression you know depending on what's been said to that character you can put in the backgrounds as well you can put in your own backgrounds if you'd like or you have a number of different backgrounds to choose from in this case I'm not going to choose any and I'm going to close that one out okay and I'm going to delete that one because I don't need it okay so what I've done here for the first scene is I basically have introduced Jim he's the coffee guy right and I've gone in here if I go into my preview I'll be able to see how this thing plays out so again this could be a management exercise with again two people in this case this is Jim and he's the coffee guy and he's going to try to say hey do you want fries with that well though when you work in a coffee shop you probably don't want to have fries necessarily but you will want to try to basically say would you like to have a cookie with that or something like that to try to get a little bit more business okay and here's your customer this is Julia she loves her lattes was not sure what she wants today but she's going to decide so these are just message scenes right with a little background and then she says hi welcome to star B's coffee shop can I help you so all right he's actually saying that sorry about that so she's going to say jeez I really don't know how about a latte and then you get basically two or three or four different answers that you might want to have the learner choose from what's the best thing to say if the customer says that okay and you could say oh you like that have you ever tried latte and you basically now can give a little remediation great job you just offer her advice but it didn't make it too pushy or you could have said something completely different and and then you would have got the loser message or no you shouldn't say that you you know you might in Salter or whatever you want to give her mediation so you see the path right it's fun to build these sort of scenarios number one I really enjoy going back and forth sorry I just wanted to add but you can actually grant points for each answer and you can grant positive and negative points exactly yes right that's that's the what I was just getting to so thank you for leading up leaders out to that work I was just so mad about that part no it's great okay so the question now is what's wrong with this picture and polina like you said it doesn't have any game to it there's no point okay well guess what in the version 8.7 uh ice cream just put in points so I'm going to close this preview okay now to different places to put in points properties first and you won't believe how simple it is here under properties enable simulation evaluation and I'm going to give it a passing score again I don't have any points that are that are uh that are on there yet but I'll show you how you're going to put in two points so that by itself I'm going to click on okay and now we'll notice oops when I go into a scene that has a couple of different choices here notice here I've got at points now and I can give five points for normal I can give zero points if I have three different answers I'll have points maybe I want 5 and 3 and 0 something like that for partially okay answers and things like that so basically every time that you have a reply option you're able to put in points okay a point value and these point values can be any numbers that you want and as Polina said they can be negatives as well okay so the other part that's very very simple inside the player there's an option here to display the score okay so now what I can do is I can take it from off off is actually the default but I can basically put in the user score and a maximum score all right very simple oops why does that show up like that okay so it's going to show the user score etc okay now preview and hopefully you'll be able to see the difference here again a couple of little message boxes start continue this is Julia and he's going to say welcome to star B's coffee hop can I help you and she's going to say sure how about something sweet okay so notice something right away up here on the top points okay got zero out of ten oh and let's give the wrong answer this time so we'll get no points okay I'll get it for you right away ah you just missed a big chance to upsell and again you'd have better remediation here potentially depending on what you want click on continue no I've never tried that is it good yes it's delicious notice I still have zero points up here okay again playing the game guess what answer that one correctly get five out of ten in this scenario I only have two different levels if you will or two different reply areas but you can build of course as many as you want five ten twenty sort of scenarios that you want to build up to basically have the messaging lesson within this roleplay so that's the talk master you get talk master in kind of a different kind of way by the way so off of the iSpring toolbar just to let you know when you're inserting this you're going to insert a simulation you don't insert talked master the name of the tool is talk master but you're inserting a simulation and I think it's about 15 minutes before the hour I think at this point I'm going to stop and maybe try to answer some questions and uh I'll do another demonstration if you'd like or show you something else if you'd like but do you want to try to throw it I'll look it over here the chat questions mm-hmm yeah we actually do have a lot of questions so let's begin with a question from David what are the third party character options oh good question so if you haven't heard iSpring 8.7 just added like a million different characters right polina oh maybe not a million almost a million so iSpring actually has now a set a whole expanded set of characters and backgrounds and images and you probably know this better than I do Polina yes it's also a sentence content library and you can see right on the iSpring sweet ribbon that's on top yes right there yep and um there are some parts of that content library available for free but if you would like to get the extended content library you need to apply for a subscription right so there are probably three rows or so of regular maybe two-and-a-half rows of regular characters that come out of the box for free or with with the purchase however then you get the extended characters and again I think there's close to a million maybe not quite a million but there's a lot of characters there eat learning brothers also has uh characters uh available so you know there are many other options that you've got you can certainly search the web but they have actually the characters there that have different expressions and different poses and all the other things that go with characters I certainly would recommend looking for something that's really meant to be a character just it will help your lesson you know if you want to have a character theme throughout it and maybe change poses or change expressions and things like that mm-hmm exactly and we have a comment from Andrea mark has by far being one of the one of those most energetic and entertaining presenters we've listened to you so far oh presentation styles are aging and understandable thanks for having him you're very welcome we're supposed to read those things later let's uh let's see if somebody's got a real question I'm getting embarrassed now um how does iSpring work with SCORM in canvas LMS to enable quick score to display in a gradebook yes so oh I'm a professor getting that you miss Boston if I can plug that just a little bit I use canvas care um sorry polina do you want to try to answer that one no no no go ahead I'm just preparing another question for you okay great so so first of all I use a lot of different tools I'm an independent contractor I do I do consulting and I'm actually at one of my clients sites right now don't tell them um but I want again one of the things that I love about iSpring is their ability to to really get great SCORM and very reliable because again there's there's a lot of differences in the under the covers things I found from tool to tool so I got to say I haven't tested it with canvas but the chances are really good I don't know if it will expand to the gradebook is the thing because that's a two-step process in canvas the gradebook I think is separate from uh from the actual output of the quiz results but I somebody could do the magic I'm sure to make that connection between the iSpring results and canvas I actually think that can I Spring has been I mean I spring working with canvas has been tested by our support engineer let me just check it really quickly because I think it might be into support in alle masses on our website yes okay um so look that doesn't look it up on the website yes all right I will send a link to it yes so canvas LMS is among verified alum Asus to be compatible with iSpring products and I will be sending the link in the chat message right now and while you're doing that I'll just mention real quickly this is a little geeky little under the covers but I am told that iSpring is the only one right now that has output not just a SCORM but this is this see mi5 yes okay I I don't even know how to spell see mi5 but I'm told it's really really important it is the next SCORM basically a lot of people think X API was the next form I'm told it's not that X API is really not apples apples with SCORM so um you know another thing where I Springs kind of staying on top of the game you know at least with LMS output right okay so I suggest do you I saw it's not showing more tricks okay wait wait I just want to show what trick is it I know this has nothing to do with ice break uh but I'm going to show what tricks is because I found it the other day and I will share it with everyone so let me do a text Phil it doesn't it doesn't have to do anything with iSpring as long as I as long as it can be used in training oh yeah this one can okay so here's the deal first of all I mentioned already this toolbar up here um let's see the quick access toolbar which has a lot of different areas look at this when you get a second and go into more commands just on your own and then don't just look at popular commands but look at all commands okay PowerPoint has I think it is a million different things that it does and not everything is on the ribbon okay so among the things that are not on the ribbon is it will do subtract shapes intersect shapes and Union shapes okay it's nowhere to be found on the ribbon and actually I'm going to do this just to kind of like show a couple examples I'll control D it again okay this will take 30 seconds I promise okay now let's take let's take the one on the left ready for this now you know you can group these things right and if I do control G okay they're grouped and it's great it's one object now but I still have those lines through it and maybe that's what I want but maybe it's not right so what shape Union will do okay this button up here that I put on here but again you can add it to the quick access toolbar if you want is it'll make it one shape and basically it's really one shape so if you want a gradient fill all the way through this like if you did gradient fill here it will all be individual gradient fills for all those three circles so you can you can now draw snowmen um and actually more practical things so if you want uh one of my things that I'm always doing is I'm always doing a flow chart and I'm trying to find like the right arrow to you so I can do this arrow but if I don't like the back end of it I can combine it with another one and then it all the gradient fills all work out great and so and so forth now this one's even better the other shape is actually subtract shape okay so subtract shape does that cool yay all right my kids can't believe it I actually get paid for doing things like this anyway I think that's all my latest I think whether your kids will be taught my son but something that you have created so this is absolutely okay let's quickly move on to the next question maybe we have time for more of them so um question from France's I apologize if I mispronounce your name how do you add user names and quiz maker tool Oh very easily so um first of all I'll say this I Spanx got really really good online help so when you go into the quiz tool to do i screen quiz there's a let's see in the properties area there's a checkbox there that says okay show uh ask the quiz ask the quiz taker information okay down at the bottom of the quiz properties okay and underneath here what you can do and this will work basically when you upload to the your LMS you believe you have to have it on an LMS for this to be enabled but basically you can make it either mandatory they have to fill in their name before they take the quiz or it could be optional or do not ask and you could do that for all of this information and then once you do it you see over here the variable name you can use that variable name then throughout the quiz so it's a kind of a nice thing to do you could say a gym season you know okay have their name display as they go through taking the quiz yeah and then on the results light there can be like KJ who you passed absolutely yep okay and but modules from yes we am please clarify if I use the animation triggers in PowerPoint for gamification score system it won't track in the gradebook of the LMS for example if I want scores to be recorded I have to create the game within the quiz feature of iSpring that's absolutely correct yes yeah the animations the drawback if you build a good game in with animation triggers it's going to be useful in it because the learner is going to hopefully get more out of the session it's going to look a little bit better it's going to differentiate you as an instructional designer from other people your samples will look great but you're absolutely a hundred percent right it's not going to be tracked in the so you'd have to use quiz maker or potentially talk master I don't know talk manager actually get strapped that's okay it has the scoring system for a reason you know okay you haven't actually worked with that live yet for a client but um soon hopefully okay the next question from Carl could a quiz this slipped in between two video segments so I assume if you have video on a slide then quiz them another video on another slide yes so the way that I would do it boy I'm going to say a definite maybe Carl here's the way that you probably could and would do it I mean a very simple a blank slide blank slide so I know this is a little difficult to see let me make it figure okay so what I have now is I have a blank slide there I have a blank slide there and a quiz in between if you know for putting it videos you probably know the only thing that you have to do is just use the normal PowerPoint insert video okay so over here insert video video on my PC insert it okay have it automatically play and then when it's done just have it automatically advanced so as soon as this video is done playing basically what you're going to do in I spring is set up this slide through presentation Explorer to not be ok the learner is going to click on this to continue it's actually a very simple thing if you haven't done this before down here on the bottom by default this little icon over here at the bottom hopefully you can see this advanced slide on a mouse click but you what you want to select is okay advance the slide automatically and you can actually have it be both so you can basically say okay allows it look the learner to click through it if they're bored to death with the animation or the video and in advance it automatically or you could unclick this you know notice up here it's doing the same action to basically just not give the learner any option that they'll have to watch the video and then at the end it'll advance automatically mm-hmm right and you can set up your group the branching for example yes after release entire video you take a quiz and then you pass you go to a certain video if you fail you go to the friend video look good all right okay next question can you use that I guess quiz feature for a certification scenario and how many questions do you recommend first of all absolutely for certification keep in mind if you're going to put this on a learning management system or some other system you know I spring's got learning management systems by the way plural so if you don't have one you can certainly look into that but that's going to basically track the scores and basically allow you to do the certifications there in the quiz tool it basically gives you options on what to do when the learner either a passes the test or B fails the test okay so you can basically do a number of different things in that way including showing a certificate giving a certificate and you can you know absolutely what was the second part of that question I know how many questions a number question mhm yeah so that that depends you know more and more we're seeing microlearning mhm so if it's micro learning and it's a really short lesson three to five questions but if it's a normal 20 minute even thirty minutes in learning and fairly long ten twenty okay you know dependent you know how important it is to certify and don't forget you can also create fifteen questions and this but only display ten and then randomly choose from the pool of fifteen to just to show ten questions if you want to try to really challenge the learners mm-hmm right okay so uh another question is about just might have to be the last question just a VR audience and then I'm happy to stick around by the way but you know we do want to everybody's got to get back to work don't they sometimes baby you're just a super great speaker so I out that but that's okay all right sorry so I interrupted you one last question okay so let's uh let's get yeah I'm just trying to see if there is another lucky chart animations don't get published that's interesting because there was another one about question pools in quiz maker yeah from Matt can you do a question pool where questions are drawn from different categories at from time absolutely the grouping actually within the the quiz maker tool you can go to group number one and group number two and group number three for questions so there's a lot of capability there within the question groups as well as just again if you have ten different questions or 15 questions for a 10 question quiz that's always a possibility mm-hmm and another one is from Divya is it possible to do a game and award badges you think with me quiz maker yeah so we don't do badges that correct um yeah like they're very little badges awarded yes so there's two to do let me go into the properties okay so the results let's see so these are the the options for for user passes and a user fails and then I might be missing it but are their badges I think that's going to be a feature of your learning management system I know that there are learning management systems out there that work on that level that if you pass you get a badge and that's really the area I think where the badging and you know even skill collection and things like that from a talent development standpoint the learning management system is the better tool ice brings capability you know really is to basically be a real solid quiz maker tool that accurately tracks results in a number of different ways including did you get enough questions correct on the quiz did you also view all the slides it'll track multiple quizzes inside of a lesson which is a feature that not every tool does but again the badging part you know it's an area where I think the learning management system takes care of it mm-hmm oh and hella just said or is LeAnn I guess you do badges in Moodle yep mm-hmm and a question from Mike can you create freeform slide with quiz maker so maybe like intro slides yeah well yeah so uh what you have up here on the top is you have a four view and you have a slide view so absolutely so once you go into slide view for your questions or your responses this is all just this is a graphic image so mm-hmm so I think this is what he's referring to yeah you can do any kind of freeform sort of assembly here so the question itself basically comes in like this so you can't see the quiz questions themselves because they're white okay but you can put any kind of background that you want you know if I right click format background you know come in with gradient colors and yeah it's actually very convenient because you can see right away how it's going to look like yeah and it's also very useful I mean you know the old quizzes used to have the question and then you could put a little picture in in the top right hand corner and and now Korean if you can do almost anything that you want here you know you can really make this a much better a better question and a better experience certainly going through the the quiz yeah that's right and you know there is one question from Christopher will I spring has demonstration of top master options so I'm happy to say that a week ago we had a web that was dedicated to talk master capabilities so I'll be happy to send you the link to that particular webinar and also for those who don't know we post our webinar recordings to our YouTube channel and you can go ahead and watch them at your own pace which i think is a great opportunity to learn something new about the product and maybe some techniques because not all webinars are dedicated to iSpring that's a good point I meant to bookmark actually the iSpring pages here because one of the things that I did find out if you go into the blog ok and then you click on the YouTube button here there's a lot of magic in YouTube right now really the blog is great as well but if you want some extra information about iSpring go into their YouTube pages and there's just tons and tons of different iSpring videos here you know then leap through there's a lot of different information hopefully that we benefit you yep and our blog will be remastered really soon so it's going to get the new look and feel so I hope you guys will enjoy it I'm really excited bad ok so well it looks like at this point we are ready to wrap up there were a couple of questions that are not really topic related but we will definitely cover them after the webinar one of our customer care specialists will get back to you and I would like to thank you Mark for doing such a great presentation thank you very much and I was like thanks everyone for coming yeah thank you guys for making this webinar happen because of not for you this would not be for a mean any reason for us to hold this webinar I hope you found it useful if you did please send your comment or feedback in the question box would be very amazing because we always love to hear from you and if you feel like there is some sort of information that you would like to learn more about in the future please let to hear what you have to say and I hope everyone has a wonderful day thank you very much for finding the time to join because I understand how hard it is always queue arrange your plans to spend some time on something like a webinar so it's really great okay thanks again mark and thanks everyone thank you Polina thanks everyone and we'll see you next week at our regular webinar it's called how to quickly launch online training with iSpring it's going to cover some user cases and also our customer care manager will walk you through the features of ice-rink suite and also iSpring learn and how they can be used in real life so if you guys are interested you're more than welcome to do in okay bye bye everyone have a good day everyone
