How to start your web design agency – Interview; Insights; Tips!


hi I’m John we have an interview with
yuno media today they are giving insight into how they setup their web
design company trust me you’re gonna get some useful information out of that in
addition to that we have advice cut through out the video on what makes an
effective website so I am joined by Rob and Dan from yuno media today we’re
going to talk about their company you know media and how it’s set up so first
of all guys can you explain to me what you know media is we’re a web design
company we’re just all about creating like affordable high quality websites
making them more accessible to everyone one of the important things straightaway
on the website you need to know exactly what your business does so the user
needs to come in and see okay they do websites for example so many people just
have their name and maybe a slogan or maybe a not so relevant image or
something that doesn’t let you tell you what they do straight away why did you
choose to set up the company why not do something else why not work in office or
both we tried that didn’t we yeah I could never hold a job for more than a
year yeah because I knew there was something not quite right and I just
just wanted to be my own boss which is kind of yeah jumped right into it and we
were College we kind of felt very pressured to go to university and again
just couldn’t it just didn’t feel right yeah so you guys didn’t study it didn’t
get degree in no no no I don’t think you really you don’t you don’t need it no no
and that’s it that’s what’s annoying is that people aren’t teaching that I guess
it first started as a film production company okay yeah yeah then our business
part at the time decided to move on and go to uni but through this friend we met Joe
who came and moved down with us and we just formed you know as it was yeah he
taught us web design and all that stuff and we continued with a bit video and
actually we just gradually just merge them to just the web web market really
what made you shift over time right that’s where the business came I guess
yeah the business came in and it was mostly web sites it was led by it’s
interesting around that happens quite a lot where you’ve
set out with one thing you want to do and then you realize something else is
working if something’s working yeah yeah but again two buttons here and ones ones
like in there in different contrast which is quite important when you’ve got
two buttons so see our affordable packages will see the work. So are you as a result of having the see affordable packages options stand out more
that’s the option you want people to pick yeah I did it yeah yeah and isn’t
your theory behind that that the color of the button you want to pick should be
opposite to it the majority of the website yes so the the orange there is
not really seen anywhere on the website and if it’s a button basically trust
everything but it was right to it so they take action yeah yeah yeah but it
is a color that complements the blue in terms of on the cone
yeah yeah actually I guess the biggest step and probably the best that we ever
did was getting our first office it was a two-man office yeah in base point
Winchester three of us in there crammed in there tiny tables each with laptops
on there no terrible dancing yeah even though we love working from home now
yeah but that first jump it not only fills you with a bit of pride but also
kind of it’s a big decision it’s a kick as well you’ve got that pay that’s why I
yeah I think that’s why it was necessary and often meeting you know in an
environment like that where it’s a big business center you know you’re meeting
your around the people that you want to sell – yeah so I think that’s good and
then it’s a very good point then you can move out and sort of right we can now
sustain ourselves at home yeah you said purpose and personality there
are two things you want to focus on yeah yeah purpose being what use the website
for so for example a lot of people just want a website because websites are just
a thing right yes yes yeah it’s identifying what why I have a website
yeah yours is to sell the package and yeah you’ve made that abundantly clear
straight away yes good wrong the personality thing
you said the I can’t really what the words were basically down to the font
you’ve chosen who sort of represents that you guys are easy to get yeah yes
that’s it yeah and you can have different choices based on those
lead people to think you’re more corporate or yes searchable yeah yeah
yeah and I suppose did attract people identifying more with that yeah yeah
yeah our age I think at the time we needed to look mature or bigger than we
actually yeah yeah cuz oh yeah we can go I can grow beard at that time
it’s just don’t really know whether we could have afforded it at the time or
not I don’t know but yeah but we did it anyway yeah and and good job we did yeah
what advice would you give to someone starting a new business it doesn’t
matter what the business is you can reference it directly to set up of web
design yeah we’ve build business yeah but what
would you say to them ah this can be JC it’s gonna be cheesy but
if you know what you want to do you really want to do it don’t do it yeah
yeah cuz it’s a lot of fun and really rewarding because it’s your own thing
yeah yeah I was a lot like yeah it doesn’t feel like work it feels like
there’s no Sunday evening every day when I worked in office I would feel this
sinking like you don’t get that I find it just feels like this is all good. Yeah I get out of bed and sit in my chair immediately in
my pyjamas yeah do a bit of emails and then do my
morning routine so the biggest thing it was basically
make a decision and some of you want achievement yeah yeah yeah whether you
might be working in full time but just find some time in the evening yeah and
get it you know do that just the smallest things your concept your your
plan your your brand and then eventually you know wean yourself off if you’re
able to into a part-time which is what I did yeah yeah and and then yeah
eventually hopefully just take that leap 3 clicks is the key thing so although
it’s fully even less now actually but I guess when we started there was a
general rule of like having three clicks you should never be three clicks away
from doing the action you want the person to do at the guy up side so in in
I guess yep in half the crap because this is something that Amazon
use right they found I can’t really exact percentage but basically found if
someone had to click one more time they saw a huge drop-off yeah yeah many
percent let’s be open but yeah so that’s why they have the bot one click by bug
yes less chances for people to get lost down the process yeah yeah so really
