Hi, my name’s Mary Blalock, I’m a senior talent manager here at 52 Limited. I’m here to give you advice on how to create a design portfolio. As a designer, it’s really important that you have a portfolio to show hiring managers. And it’s pretty important that you have it on a website as well. There are some really great, simple templates. Cargo Collective is one of them, and Squarespace. It doesn’t really matter what the platform is that you use for the portfolio, just keep it simple.
Don’t overcomplicate it and make it a huge project by trying to learn code and create a website. All you need to do is find a simple template and upload your work to it. There’s two things to keep in mind when laying out your portfolio. Make sure that you have the most current work at the very top of your portfolio. Also make sure that your work is relevant. Say you’re looking for a mobile UI designer role, then make sure that at the very top of your portfolio you have work in there that’s mobile and that is relevant to the position.
